About NSFDC

NSFDC is a Public Sector Undertaking under the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, engaged in promoting economic empowerment of persons belonging to Scheduled Castes by providing concessional financial assistance, skill development and entrepreneurship support.

The Scheduled Castes beneficiaries assisted by NSFDC under concessional financial assistance for self-employment and for pursuing professional/technical educational courses must fall within, presently annual family income of ₹ 5 lakh, as amended from time to time.

Incorporation

NSFDC was set up by the Government of India on 8th February, 1989, under the name National Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation.

Bifurcation

Consequent upon the orders of the Government of India declaring bifurcation of the erstwhile NSFDC (National Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation) into two separate Corporations (one each for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes), the existing NSFDC is now functioning exclusively for persons belonging to Scheduled Castes only with effect from 10th April, 2001.


The Corporation was incorporated as a fully owned Government of India company under Section 25 (not-for-profit) of the Companies Act, 1956. It is now governed under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 (not-for-profit).

Vision

To be the leading catalyst in the systematic reduction of poverty through the socio-economic development of eligible Scheduled Castes, functioning in an efficient, responsive, and collaborative manner with channelizing agencies and other development partners.

Mission

To promote prosperity among Scheduled Castes by improving the flow of financial assistance through skill development and other innovative initiatives.

Objectives

The broad objective of NSFDC is to finance, facilitate, and mobilize funds for the socio-economic empowerment of Scheduled Caste persons, presently having an annual family income of up to  5.00 lakh (in both rural and urban areas, w.e.f. 7th January, 2026), as amended from time to time.

  • To finance income-generating schemes of eligible Scheduled Caste persons through State Channelizing Agencies (SCAs) nominated by the State Governments/UT Administrations and Other Channelizing Agencies (CAs).
  • To improve the flow of financial assistance to persons belonging to Scheduled Castes for their economic well-being.
  • To provide educational loans to the target group through SCAs and/or CAs for pursuing full-time professional/technical courses through recognized institutions in India and abroad.
  • To provide grants for Skill Development Training Programmes for the target group in order to assist them in job/self-employment.
  • To organize/participate in exhibitions-cum-fairs for marketing the products of beneficiaries.

Activities & Share Capital

Activities

NSFDC provides financial assistance for income-generating schemes for the target group through State Channelizing Agencies (SCAs) nominated by respective State Governments/UT Administrations and Channel Partners such as:

  • Public Sector Banks
  • Regional Rural Banks
  • Non-Banking Financial Company – Micro Finance Institutions (NBFC-MFIs)
  • Cooperative Banks/Societies
  • Other Development Organizations

These partnerships are governed through Memoranda of Agreement (MoA).
